Whole Nation celebrates 1st week of September as ‘National Nutrition Week’. And now National Nutrition week 2018 is well and truly underway. As per to FHTS, agenda of celebrating this Nutrition Week is “Choose healthy life with nutrition”. In honor of National Nutrition Week Foundation of Healthcare Technologies Societies (FHTS) celebrated National Nutrition Week for spreading the awareness about the importance of nutrition and eating nutritious foods, water sanitation and hygiene and family planning. FHTS celebrated this week with the women living in urban slum of ‘Adarsh Basti’ at Park near Peeli Kothi of South Delhi on 6th of September 2018 respectively.
A total session of 2 hour were conducted by Bhavya Malhotra, Shruti Sharma, Dr. Menka Loomba, Ankita, Archa Misra and Ankur Dubey the team member of FHTS at Adarsh Basti and in the session there were around 25 women of various categories i.e. adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers who took part and being addressed about the importance of nutrition and eating nutritious foods, water sanitation and hygiene and family planning.
Celebration started with the introduction of FHTS and the team of Fhts.
During the celebration session was taken by Shruti Sharma, Dr.Menka Loomba and Archa Misra on various topics.
Shruti Sharma took the session on the Importance of Nutrition in which she educated the women about: what is Nutrition? Instilled the importance of consumption of vitamins, minerals, protein and water in our daily food habits; intake of the kind of nutrition during pregnancy; maximum weight we need to gain during pregnancy is 14 to 15 kg; how to cook pulses i.e. after overnight soaking of pulses we should cook; used oil should not be reused while cooking and oil should not be stored in transparent container; what kind of food we should eat daily i.e. vegetables, fruits, pulse, whole grain & water. At the end of her session she gave the message “with consumption of healthy foods we should also live healthy’.
Dr. Menka Loomba took a session on the topic spreading awareness on “Water, Sanitation & Hygiene” including both personal and environmental hygiene. During her session she raised awareness of not to store drinking water in plastic container as it is very harmful for health; How to purify drinking water i.e. by boiling of water, by addition of an alum to purify the water as alum helps in process of sedimentation of impurities in water; menstrual hygiene; She also showcased the steps for how to: wash hands and brushing techniques. At the end of her session she interacted with the women and asked them to repeat the steps of hand washing and brushing technique learnt by them.
Archa Misra took session on the topic Family Planning. The agenda of this topic was to raise the awareness about “why Family Planning is necessary”; through the session Archa tried to promote family planning which is a concern for reducing infant and maternal mortality. During her session she introduced what is Family Planning: Family Planning allows people to attain their desired number of children and determine the spacing of pregnancy which can only be possible through the use of contraception method and the treatment of infertility; Types of Contraception Method; Discussed the benefits of Family Planning and myths related to Family Planning.
At the end of the session the team of FHTS tried to interact with the women but they did not responded might be because of shy feeling but when the session ended most of the ladies came forward and asked for the solutions of their problems regarding menstrual hygiene and Family Planning one to one with the team member of FHTS.
Celebration of National Nutrition Week ended with the message of Archa Misra:
“CHHOTA PARIWAR, SUKHI PARIWAR”.
