Low and fixed income households spend a larger proportion of their income on energy costs when compared to higher income households. Managing energy expenses with other non-negotiable expenses like food ,medicine becomes a challenge for these vulnerable groups especially in face of rising energy bills. These households are more likely to suffer from direct health impacts of power generation;fact being these households are more likely to be situated in proximity to power plants. Also with regards to environment change these households are disproportionately impacted and have a lesser capacity to adapt to it.Energy efficiency and use of renewable energy can help address these challenges. Thus, research should focus on developing innovative solutions for the same.

Yes we need to think of some innovative ideas on how we can help people have access to affordable and clean energy. A country like India where 70% of the population live in rural areas need to follow some of the examples from other countries. This would not only help in improving the energy accessibility but will also help in raising the standard of living of these people.

Ensuring universal access to affordable electricity by 2030 means investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal. Adopting cost-effective standards for a wider range of technologies could also reduce the global electricity consumption by buildings and industry by 14 percent. This means avoiding roughly 1,300 mid-size power plants. Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean energy sources in all developing countries is a crucial goal that can both encourage growth and help the environment.
