I call my platform and research ‘SMAART’: Sustainable, Multisectoral, Accessible, Affordable, Reimbursable, Tailored.

The health of the population has many contributing factors. For instance, if someone is not financially independent or not able to afford health solutions, how can they maintain their health?

All my research is built around creating culturally adaptive material that allows communities to modify their behavior while keeping their social circumstances in mind.

What is SMAART?

SMAART is a human-centric & impact-driven solution with the goal of enhancing the health & well-being of diverse communities across the globe. The SMAART Model is a framework created to solve real problems with real solutions. This dynamic & flexible approach has been implemented across sectors & circumstances – and will continue to grow and change the lives of many.

How SMAART was born?

Dr. Ashish Joshi in his childhood noticed disparities impacting everyone. As a child he noticed inequality and inequity in education and healthcare. He knew he would be a part of much needed change. Being an international Public Health student in the US, he started diving deep within these and many other inequalities which existed everywhere. With his personal philosophies and spiritual belief, coupled with his knowledge, expertise and observations he developed a framework for bringing sustained solutions to real problems which can cater to multi sectors, are accessible, affordable and can be tailored.

SMAART started producing solutions as an informatics framework for building digital interventions for various public health issues globally.

Soon it was realized that SMAART is not just limited to building solutions for directly addressing public health challenges but can fit in to tackle other factors which can be a social determinant or any extrinsic factor for any public health problem. Various initiatives were built for employment generation, gender inequality, inequity, skill development and workforce strengthening. A need of an organization was felt which can implement these solutions for addressing inequalities and seed named Foundation of Healthcare Technologies was sown in 2012.

How does SMAART work?

SMAART employs a “middle-out” approach. This approach is a bridge between a “top-down” and “bottom-up” approach. It allows for data-driven & evidence-based policies to be made based on community participation and engagement. Community involvement is crucial to the SMAART Model.
