I, Mahak Gera, pursuing MPH from Jawahar Lal Nehru University. I pursued my Bachelors of Dental surgery from Pt. BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, India. I did my internship at Manav Rachna Dental College, Faridabad. I want to become an aspiring public health professional and want to serve the community. If the Public Health field of India strengthens further then medical facilities would also show improvement. I am really interested in doing research work, epidemiology and want to work for the improvement of maternal and child health. I am looking forward to learning from the Foundation of Health Care Technology.

I joined Masters of Public Health because I always wanted to work for the community. I wanted to understand the grass-root problems of the individuals and help them in achieving their good health. There are many national programs working for the elimination of certain diseases like the National Malaria Eradication Program, Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program. These programs help in the control of endemic diseases. Every year many people lost their lives due to these diseases. In the next 1 year, I want to contribute to any of the National Programmes so that the death of many people can be averted. It would help the individuals to ensure their good health and prevent themselves from these deadly diseases. In this way, I will also be able to understand the epidemiology of different diseases. Research plays an important role in discovering new treatments and making sure that we use existing treatments in the best possible ways. Research can find answers to things that are unknown, filling gaps in knowledge and changing the way that healthcare professionals work. I want to become a part of the research work that is helpful to society. Qualitative research also helps to understand the deeper problems of the people in a better way.
In the next 3 years, I wish to see myself working with the World Health Organization. I think every student of master of public health wants to collaborate in any of the projects with this organization. This is an organization that aims to achieve international public health. By engaging myself in this organization my dream of ensuring good health for the public would be achieved.
