Goals:

Goal 1: I want to be an effective Public Health Educator
This has always been my number 1 goal and also partly the reason that led me choose a career in the field of Public Health. I come from a small town in the coastal area about 3 hrs away from the city of Mangalore in Karnataka. I have always seen the need for health education in my area and have also initiated my work towards this goal by visiting schools and trying to persuade them to have me take health awareness sessions for their high school girls, pertaining to the topic of Women’s health. It has not been an easy journey but I am sure if I’m persistent enough, I will see better results.

Goal 2: Be able to support in Cancer research
This is somewhere I see myself a couple of years down the line. I have always been very much interested in the subject of research since I was introduced to it during my Third semester at my masters program. I understand that research is an extremely vast field and one of the reasons I have opted for an internship at FHTS is because I have read the testimony from the interns. Having said that, I know this is just a first step but I am also hopeful that this will take me closer to the goal.

Goal 3: To enhance my skills in the data analysis programs
Data analysis has not been my strongest area of expertise but I want this to change. I have learned SPSS during my postgraduate period but have never been able to apply it during my actual research work. My main focus for this year is enhancing my skills in statistical analysis with SPSS and R.

Goal 4: Better understanding of Communicable diseases
Personally, communicable diseases and infections was one of the most challenging subjects for me in college. Therefore, I want to pursue and acquire additional degree or certifications in infectious diseases or related field.

Goal 5: I want to start a Public health organisation of my own
Though I’ve written it down as a last goal but this definitely feels like the need of the hour to me. Health is a basic right that should be available to all but educating people about how to take good care of yourself is equally important. This goal is closely linked with my Goal 1 and I want to make sure that even if I move out of my town, I have a way of giving back to my community through this organisation.
