Objective

  • To integrate clinical and non-clinical data sources by combining principles of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs) to enhance population health outcomes across diverse geographic settings.
  • To utilize the PHIK as a tool to assess the burden of chronic diseases and associated risk factors in diverse settings such as urban, urban slums, and rural/tribal settings in India.

Observation

A total of 7 beneficiaries (1 male and 6 females) attended the Swasthya Pahal camp organised on 29th February 2024 at Sanjay Camp Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Out of these seven beneficiaries, more than two-third of them had higher blood pressure than normal. More than two-third of them were found to be overweight/obese (n=3) and were also found to be engaged in regular physical activity (n=3). Only one (n=1) had high random blood sugar.

Additional Comments

  • Beneficiaries found the counselling session to be very informative and useful, and many of them got to know more about their health condition.
  • All the beneficiaries found the Swasthya Pahal initiative to be very helpful.

Number of beneficiaries enrolled in SHINE: SMAART Hub for Informatics enabled Nutrition Education (SHINE) Initiative aims to enhance self-management of chronic non-communicable diseases using multilingual digital HEALTH intervention tailored to enhance their knowledge regarding self- management of disease condition(s), diet, physical activity, healthy lifestyle, home-remedies, medication adherence and stress management. Among seven beneficiaries, only one of them expressed their interest in receiving informative messages for diet and lifestyle management and opted to receive messages weekly. The significant reason of not enrolling into SHINE is that the beneficiaries screened were women in majority and were found to not have basic education to comprehend the messages.

Swasthya Pahal ("Health for all"), our community initiative utilizes SMAART™ framework, aims to promote self-management among individuals about diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high cholesterol. Swasthya Pahal utilizes interactive multi-lingual, touch screen computer program that gathers data related to social-demographics, clinical history, and health behaviors.

In addition, objective data gathered includes height, weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar. An evidence based decision rule engine then generates a SMAART™ health card for each individual. Based on the individual risk findings, the system provides an individualized lifestyle feedback supported by trained lifestyle counselling experts.
