Description

The Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly unanimously approved decision WHA74(18) on May 31, 2021, designating January 30, 2021, as World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day. World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day aims to increase public awareness of neglected tropical diseases, the suffering they cause, and the efforts being made to control, eliminate, and eradicate them. This is by the programmatic targets outlined in the NTD road map 2021–2030 and the promises made in the 2022 Kigali declaration on neglected tropical diseases.

This year’s theme for World NTD Day is to Unite, Act, and Eliminate. To address the disparities that fuel neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and to make audacious, long-term investments to lift the estimated 1.62 billion people living in the world’s most vulnerable communities out of the cycle of poverty and illness, WHO is urging everyone, including leaders and communities, to band together and take action.

50 nations have already eradicated NTDs, demonstrating that progress is achievable. Compared to 2010, 600 million fewer people needed NTD interventions in 2020. However, for a while now, it has been believed that a major obstacle to the management, eradication, and eradication of NTDs is a need for more resources. This challenge has made this challenge even more difficult by COVID-19, resulting in significant resource repurposing and diversion, as well as significant

delays and disruptions to NTD programs. We’d like to ask you this year to ASK: Let’s get our voices heard. Request that governments, world leaders, and those in positions of authority take immediate, coordinated action to address neglected tropical diseases. ACT: Everyone has a crucial part to perform. We can jointly generate the attention and resources required to meet the targets outlined in the WHO 2030 NTD road map and SDG3.

In acknowledgment of World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day’s significance, the Foundation of Healthcare Technologies Society (FHTS) organized an interactive quiz contest. This event, aligned with the primary goals of increasing awareness of Neglected Tropical Diseases, the event aimed to increase knowledge on the various conditions that come under the Neglected Tropical Diseases and on how to combat them.

The contest was specifically designed to serve the following purposes:

Objectives

  • Assessing participants’ understanding of neglected tropical diseases.
  • Providing a platform for sharing accurate, reliable information about neglected tropical diseases
  • Commemorating the day through an educational activity to peak the interest of students in this area.

These aims were directed at leveraging the quiz contest as a means to achieve specific outcomes, aligning with the broader objectives of World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day.
