Introduction

The United Nations General Assembly, in an innovative resolution declared October 29 as International Day of Care and Support. The resolution encourages Member States, the United Nations system, civil society, the commercial sector, academia, and the general public to observe the worldwide day on an annual basis. It recognizes the unequal burden of unpaid care and domestic work on women and girls and emphasizes the importance of addressing these systemic impediments to women’s empowerment. As a result, the United Nations has designated this day to promote awareness, strengthen legislation, and increase investments to transform the care economy and advance gender equality.
