Foundation of Healthcare Technologies Society, University of Memphis School of Public Health, and Zila Parishad, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, under a joint collaborative initiative, are bringing the Model of Public Health Education to High Schools by using the Public Health in Action curriculum and establishing public health clubs across 50 high schools in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. This first-of-its-kind initiative is engaging more than 1,500 students, across all 12 blocks of Kolhapur.

Marking a key milestone for the initiative, the first curriculum session was conducted on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with the module “Introduction to Public Health.” The session was attended by nodal teachers representing 34 schools, along with members of Zila Parishad’s Education team, who joined to support this first rollout.

The FHTS team introduced students to the fundamentals of public health – what it means, the areas it encompasses, and why it matters in everyday life. To reinforce learning, students were given a hands-on activity. Once received, the FHTS team will assess the activity to gauge how well students grasped the concepts introduced in this first module.

This marks the beginning of the curriculum’s phased rollout across all 50 participating schools, with future modules set to build on the foundation laid in this first session.
