Assessment of Quality and Readability of Osteoporosis related health information on the Internet using DISCERN and Flesch-Kincaid Tools

The study identified that there has been a spike in the availability of online health-related information so that the population can be up-to-date regarding information pertinent to their disease condition. The study assessed the quality and readability of health information on the internet for Osteoporosis. The websites were selected using keywords like “Osteoporosis”, “Osteoporosis causes”, “Osteoporosis diagnosis”, “Osteoporosis prevention”, and “Osteoporosis management” over Google. DISCERN and Flesch-Kincaid Tools were used to assess 41 websites. The mean DISCERN score (out of 80) was 52.35±6.90 (Good quality). The average DISCERN score was the highest for the .gov websites. Out of the selected websites, only one website had an excellent quality of information. Overall, the information available on the internet was difficult to read with a readability grade above seventh-grade.
Evaluation of quality and readability of diabetes-related online health information using DISCERN and Flesch-Kincaid Tools

The study evaluated the quality and readability of diabetes-related online health information. The websites were gathered by searching for keywords like “Diabetes mellitus”, “Diabetes mellitus causes”, “Diabetes mellitus diagnosis”, “Diabetes mellitus prevention”, and “Diabetes mellitus management” using the search engine Google on 20th June 2020. Validated DISCERN and Flesch-Kincaid Tools and was used by the four raters to assess 37 selected websites. The initial search resulted in a sum of 100 websites. After applying the exclusion criteria of excluding duplicate and journal articles remaining 37 unique websites were included in the final evaluation.

Mapping Sustainable Development Goals in Urban slum settings

World Bank estimates of extreme poverty in 2010 were that over 32.7% of the Indian population lived on less than $1.25 a day, down from more than 50% in 1994. According to World Bank report 2016, 1 out of 5 people living in India is poor. Poverty rate in urban area is 14% while poverty rate in rural area is 25%. In rural area low income categories are mainly casual labor while in urban area low income categories are mainly self employed and casual labor or daily wagers. The data shows that Poor and Non-Poor both of the categories spent maximum proportion of their income in food. Furthermore, the Poor spent 56% of their income in food while the Non-Poor spent 47% of their income in food. This numbers clearly depicts that the Poor spends more on food than Non-Poor. Subsidies given on food by the government for the poor can save some portion of their income which they can spend in health, education or others.

Water and Sanitation Hygiene Knowledge Attitude Practice in urban slum settings

Access to improved drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is one of the prime concerns around the globe. The objective of this pilot study was to explore water and sanitation hygiene related attitude and practices among individuals living in urban slum settings of south Delhi, India. In the current study, three-fourth of the respondents were not using any method to treat the water and 73 %( n=22) felt that water is already clean so there is no need to treat it. In contrast the result of water sample collected from households showed that 55% of the samples were contaminated. On assessing the situation and practices related to sanitation it was found that only 45 % (n=18) of the individuals had access to toilets inside the households, so more than half of the pilot study population had to go out of the houses for defecation. Majority of the participants washed their hands both before handling of the food and eating, 88% (n=35) of the participants washed their hands after defecation and 75% (n=30) of them wash their hands after eating. 78% (n=31) of the participants agreed that washing hands improves hygiene and 75 % (n=30) of them agreed that it prevents infection.
