Evaluation of geriatric lifestyle enhancement related applications on Google Play Store using MARS as a tool for assessment

With growing focus on geriatric population, mobile applications are increasingly in use to deliver information on various aspects. It can also represent a cost-effective method to support the older adults.The study conducted an assessment and evaluated the quality of geriatric apps in the Google Play Store. Average scoring rates among individual raters was highest in the functionality section (mean=3.20) and lowest in the engagement section (mean=2.54) of app quality ratings of the MARS tool. Analysis indicated a higher correlation value for the overall app quality score (ICC=0.759) when compared to the app subjective quality score (ICC=0.623). The subdimensions for MARS tool were found to be positively co-related (p< 0.05, CI 95%).
Knowledge, attitude, and practices related to COVID-19 pandemic in an Indian setting

The study identified the adherence towards COVID-19 preventive measures and acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine that is likely to be influenced by the population’s health literacy. Evidence suggested that knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) related to the COVID-19 pandemic play a crucial role in understanding the health-seeking behavior of the population. The study aimed to determine and examine the KAP related to the COVID-19 pandemic among the population in urban and rural settings of Tamil Nadu. A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2021 to May 2021 among individuals enrolled from eight primary health centers (PHCs) in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Quality of health information available for the geriatric population over the Internet using DISCERN and Flesch Kincaid tools: An Evaluation Study

Information over the internet is freely available. Much of Internet Geriatric Health Information (IGHI) is not controlled for quality hence to address this issue, this study aims to understand the quality, readability and the grade level required to comprehend the content given on the website for geriatric populations using different assessment tools. For our study we used the DISCERN tool to assess the quality of content given on a webpage.
Usefulness, Acceptance and Effectiveness of Swasthya Pahal program using SMAART informatics framework in different settings of India

The aimed to enhance the self-management of chronic non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and obesity), by determining the usefulness, acceptance, and effectiveness of the Swasthya Pahal program in hospital and community settings in both rural and urban areas of India. This objective was met by generating risk factor profiles of individuals enrolled and enhancing their self-management of NCDs using a portable health information kiosk that employs the SMAARTTM model.

Digital Health Policy: Current Global Implementation Strategies for Practice and Research: A Cross-Sectional Study

The study mapped data on various government portals in relation to digital health policy and implementation strategies that analyzed and evaluated the digital health policies, the current status, and explored the current state of digital health research and highlighted worldwide adoption of telemedicine, Health Information System (HIS) and informations and communication technology (ICT ) as an emerging trend.
Evaluating features, behavior change techniques, and nutrition-specific information in pregnancy m-Health apps

Mobile apps have the potential to transform the practice and reach of medical care and research. Usage of pregnancy health apps are found to be effective interventions for creating maternal awareness regarding maternal weight monitoring and nutritional recommendations. The study aimed to assess various pregnancy diet apps available in google play store, along with evaluation of behaviour change techniques (BCTs) and pregnancy specific nutrition information. Hundred percent (n=50) of the apps were freely available, thirty six percent (n=18) had a rating greater than 4 and 44% (n=22) belonged to health and fitness category. Twenty-seven BCTs (67.5%) were present across the included apps wherein 98% (n=49) stimulates anticipation of future rewards among its users. Most common pregnancy nutrition topics was related to nutritional information on major food groups (n=47, 94%).
Evaluation of Malnutrition Applications in the Google Play Store

Malnutrition is a major public health concern globally, particularly in developing countries. Interventions that use mobile health applications may be utilized to prevent and overcome the burden of malnutrition among the population. The study aimed to comprehensively assess and evaluate the features of malnutrition applications currently available in the Google Play Store based on user interface. 76 applications were found to be eligible and included in the study. Descriptive analysis showed that 97.37% (n=74) applications were available free of cost. The average rating was higher for 69.73% (n=53) applications and very few applications (n=4; 5.26%) were recently updated in 2021. The highest percentage of applications (n=25; 32.89%) had no users and the highest percentage (n=16; 21.05%) of applications had 100+ installations. Further, self-monitoring features were most common (n=38; 28.8%) followed by nutritional status assessment (n=34; 25.84%).
